Head’s up! I’ve decided to change the update schedule to the classic M-W-F schedule for a few reasons.
1. It’ll give me more time to make strips that aren’t just talking heads like most webcomics. That’s boring!
2. Enough people have asked me about new Merch, and with my other busy work schedule I lack the time to devote to creating new merch and fulfillment. This will open up some of my time to promote and design properly.
3. When this becomes my full time thing again, I’ll go back to the daily update schedule no problemo.
For those who asked for the TIKI MUG shirt, Your wish is my command! Available in women’s and men’s styles, and you pick the color of shirt. Click the image below to check it out:
First, I’d like to say THANK YOU to the few folks who donated toward my cat’s emergency surgery bill! And talk about some future plans… ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
They say the definition of CRAZY is repeating the same process over and over again and expecting a different result.
I can’t quite explain the urge or hunger to produce a daily strip. I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s a sickness that only people who are bit by the bug would truly understand. There is no cure for this sickness. It’s an always hungry monster. Even when you QUIT, it doesn’t stop. The only thing you can do to quench its thirst is to pick up a pen and continue.
I’ve had several false re-starts with Yirmumah over the past couple years. I kind of feel like I’m a bit cursed, because EVERY time I decide to take it up again, like clockwork some big job or opportunity falls into my lap. I get a little comfortable making money for other clients and thinking… “Why did I ever work so hard on daily comics! Boy was I a sucker!” — but that always felt like a lie or good excuse to tell myself. The truth is, no matter what or who I’m working with on other endeavors, in the back of my brain I’m always thinking about comics.
“DAILY” cartoonists don’t think like regular cartoonists or illustrators, and once you’ve started thinking or working like a daily cartoonist it NEVER FUCKING LEAVES YOU. Everything in your life passes through this weird lens or filter as if there were floating panels and beats just waiting to happen. You listen to dialogue differently, you may even find yourself in your own mind editing what people should have said to fit a gag. There were times I tried hard to turn this lens off, but you can only dull it. The little voice is always there. That came from years and years of doing daily strips. I think any daily stripper would agree with these thoughts.
Why do this at all?! Over and over again. It can be so much work! It’s insanity.
Is it for YOUR enjoyment? No. but if you enjoy it, that’s super! Is it the fame and fortune? Nope, there are much easier ways for a cartoonist to pay bills, and I’ve totally spent my 15 minutes of fame in comic book land. WHY MOTHERCRUNKER? WHY?!
When I ask myself that question and think about all I’ve wrote and drawn over the years, I think the answer to WHY is very simple. The answer is that it really sucks to NOT have this type of outlet and have ideas just bounce around in your head. Why Yirmumah? Well, I’m fond of the old gal. We have this weird little “family” of fans that never gave up on it, or me.
April 1st seems an apt day to relaunch her. For real this time. No, seriously.
